We're involved. And that's not on you. That's on whatever weirdo decided the criminal justice system should be handled by thirty-something heroes-in-training that they kidnapped from a bunch of different worlds and then keep forcing into these bizarre situations that none of us asked for.
[he opens his mouth like he's planning to say something, and then thinks better of it. tapping out the ashes of his cigarette into the tray while he avoids eye contact again.]
[he reaches over to put a hand on his arm that isn't fucked up.]
...it isn't wrong to defend yourself when someone tries to kill you. And I know you were trying to look out for us by keeping us out of it. [...] Sorry. This isn't what you wanted, but...
[he's quiet for a few long moments, before sighing.]
It's not like I want to hurt them or anything. [maybe they won't ask him? maybe it won't even come up, and he won't ever have to be confronted with it.] I just...
That's exactly my point. Once you start down this path, even if the initial reason you had was well-intentioned, you're going to have to keep making the decision every time to continue to lie to people or to face up to their feelings.
[pulling away the hand, with a sigh, deflating from that lecturing posture pretty instantly.]
Anyway, don't bother. Just tell them the truth. You thought I was in trouble, you stood up for me, but you found out after that there was a lot I hadn't told you. If they want to find out what happened, they can just ask me.
[will looks up at him, and the look on his face makes it very clear that he is not really used to having an adult authority figure lecture him. he looks sort of caught-out.
...but he's listening, at least. he nods once.
but still, quietly, he has to say - ]
Trying to help you isn't a decision I'm gonna regret, Reigen. I hope you know that.
[sorry to everyone but this conversation was not spicy.]
Knowing you would and deciding to ask are two different things. It was easy to see you'd get involved in helping me frame somebody and getting them executed on false pretenses if I made a big deal about being in a tricky spot. It wouldn't have been too hard to manipulate things so I was sure to get out of it.
But I didn't want to do things that way, that's all.
[ yeah it really was not, also it was on the balcony here like 10 feet away from all of you ]
You could've said that too! If that wasn't what you wanted to do we would've just focused on the other murder and let you decide how you wanted to handle it if we didn't figure that one out in time!
If I'd told you...I believe you. That you would have handled it like that. [let him take the fall if it came to it.] So maybe all of that is just crap. Maybe I just hated the idea of any of you thinking I'd gotten myself into a mess I couldn't get out of.
Well, you see how stupid that was now, right? Even after you made all this into an even bigger mess, we're still your comrades and we're not goin' anywhere.

[godddddd.]
What happened?
no subject
[he knows he should answer the question, but.]
The last thing I wanted was for you guys to have to get involved with this.
no subject
[he's so tired.]
no subject
[he looks down at the pillow he's holding and just. sighs. tired, and unable to continue his defensive prickliness with will right now.]
I don't expect you to get it. But it could have been anybody who killed Satan. Or anybody who got accused. I didn't know how I was going to handle it.
no subject
[...]
I wish we'd figured out who killed Satan. But. [...] After everything, I couldn't - there was no way I'd be able to vote for you. None.
no subject
Sorry, Will. I wish we'd figured it out, too.

[they kinda took matters into their own hands.]
no subject
Well. It can't be undone now.
no subject
[so. he is kind of sorry for putting reigen in that position where he had to either keep quiet and let him lie or out him as a liar.]
no subject
Will...even if I can't feel all that sorry for Hans Humpty, there are people besides him who are going to be hurt. Will you keep lying to them?
no subject
[he's quiet for a few long moments, before sighing.]
It's not like I want to hurt them or anything. [maybe they won't ask him? maybe it won't even come up, and he won't ever have to be confronted with it.] I just...
